I decided to make a test with three amps to see what this KEFs are able to.
They have been putted together as is in the owner's manual says:
2m distancing each other / 60cm from the floor / 1m from the lateral walls and 30cm from the rear
The viscoelastic pieces was correctly introduced inside the bass reflex holes.
Music was allways "deeper love" "aretha franklin" in two rhythms (original version - classic and a dance electro club dance - eddie thonieck)
speaker cables - that kind you can find everywhere transparent with 4mm diameter without terminals
With MARANTZ PM-82
1st: - didn't realized any difference between "class A " mode on/off
2nd - direct mode
3rd - conclusions: Very dynamic but flat in bass and lack of "highs" - good quality in definition of sound without any kind of distortion. There was some emptiness of coloring and some presence of shadow ( even when Volume knob was pushed up to 12o'clock the sound always was warm) this is specialy good if you listen to slow music, but at the same time seems like dynamic was missing.)
4th - The marriage didn't resulted.
The amp is good but the KEFs don't like him. They need more punchy bass and more treble excitement to the tweeters.
5th - The volume of the room ( 12 square meters x 3m high) needed more fluctuation in the octaves,
So this combination did not produced musicality to fly with Aretha . In other way i might say, it was like "a studio session for tape recordings" - without pleasure.
There are probably other MARANTS with better PRE- amp. This was what i felted. This speakers need equipment with good control of the frequencies. An equalizer maybe......
The HARMAN KARDON HK675
1st - Direct mode.
2nd - Even with less power it was more Dynamic / played more trebles / was more punchy (boomy) unfortunately in my opinion - cause i don't like to ear constantly "boom" "boom" "boom" . instead i prefer b...o.h..ha...ho..,.hm.m.m.m.m..a.mmh..m.mh..h.hoh..h.h....ao.o...h.h.hh.am.m.m.m.h...h.a..m"
Like a didgeridoo does
3rd - The KEFs where excited by this AMP!
4th - the room have a problem: it's not big enough for this mariage. i would say 15 m2 is the perfect suit for this combination.
5th Even with this considerations of the space where i maid the test, i would say this marriage doesn't match... it was better that this amp produced more power,
For these KEFs, an HK 970 it's probably a better choice, cause these boxes need power!
With AUDIO ANALOGUE PRIMO SETTANTA:
1st: It turns obvious that this speakers are not easy to excite:
This amp produces 70W p/channel but doesn't have large capacitors. So the Electric current is managed as transistors want. And so, the levels you get are the levels of the source.
Even following this theory i felted some interesting aspects.
This amp is excellent in details and in stereo imaging. and this is what this speakers have to pleasure who buy them.
So i might say a PRIMO CENTO is more accurate fore this bookshelves.
The problems of these speakers are:
They where bad designed by the KEF engineers. They should have more interior cabinet volume.
Sensitivity is good but they can only excite with a real 100W amplifier and an equalizer or a good pre-amplifier must be present.
I think the top CAMBRIDGES and the TOP NADs are good for this KEFs.
They are sailed as BOOKSHELVES , but they work better in large spaces where they can produce amazing results!
I can only recomend this speakers for the top floor of the house near to the roof in areas about 20 or 30 square meters.
